Hyundai Motor Co., South Korea's largest automaker, will build 2,000 Sonata midsize sedans a year from kits in Thailand, its first production in the Southeast Asian country.

대한민국(Republic of South Korea라고 쓰라고!!)의 자동차업계의 한 축인 현대자동차가 중형 세단인 소나타 모델을 2000대 생산가능한 공장을 태국에 건설할 것이며 태국 등지의 남동부 아시아 국가(태국이나 홍콩, 중국에 팔아먹을 거란건가;;;)에 처음으로 건설되게 될것이다.

Hyundai Motor's Thailand sales agent will set up a production unit around September and will later assemble the cars at Thonburi Automotive Group, the Seoul-based automaker said in an e-mailed statement.

현대자동차의 태국 판매담당에이전트는 9월까지 생산공정을 준비할 예정이며 추후에 톤보리 자동차(이거 회사이름인데 검색하지 말라면 어떻게 쳐내란말야!!!)와 협조할 것이라고 서울에 본사기있는 자동차회사(=현대자동차)이메일로 통보했다.

Chairman Chung Mong-koo is relying on overseas expansion to achieve his goal of making Hyundai Motor and affiliate Kia Motors Corp. into the world's fifth-biggest automaker by 2010. The carmaker doesn't export cars to Thailand because of a 25 percent tariff on finished vehicles.

Following an announcement on Monday that U.S. video and DVD rental giant Blockbuster will stock only Blu-ray format DVDs in its 1,450 stores when it expands to high-definition DVDs next month, many news reports suggested it will deal a major blow to Blu-ray's rival, the HD DVD format.

Blockbuster's move could be the first step in resolving a war between the two incompatible formats, which kept confused customers from rushing to buy new DVD players until they could determine which format will dominate the market, AP reported on Monday.

The two formats, which enable sharper images and interactive features, have been incompatible: Blu-ray is used in products of Sony, Samsung Electronics, Hitachi and JVC; HD DVD is supported by Toshiba, Microsoft, Intel and NEC.

Officials from Korean DVD player makers Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics say that it is too early to say consumers are choosing Blu-ray over HD DVD because the two companies still have enough potential demand for the HD DVD format.

한국의 삼성전자와 LG 전자의 DVD플레이어 제작팀의 대표는 소비자들이 블루레이형식 혹은 HD-DVD 타입중 어느 하나를 고르는 것은 너무 이르다고 말했다; 왜냐면 두 회사 모두 충분한 이익이 되는 HD-DVD주문량이 있기때문이다.

"Although the Blu-ray format seems to have gained some momentum after the Blockbuster announcement, we still see a demand for HD DVD titles as well," said Samsung Electronics spokesman Kim Se-hun.

To satisfy customers favoring HD DVD, Samsung Electronics, which has been selling only the Blu-ray DVD player BD-P1000 since June last year, plans to launch a dual DVD player that supports both formats in the fall, Kim said.

" HD-DVD와 삼성전자를 선호하는 고객을 만족시키기 위해서, 현재 작년 6월부터 판매된 유일한 블루레이 DVD플레이어인 BD-P1000 모델을 보완하는 두가지 형식이 모두 지원되는 듀얼 DVD플에이어를 올해 가을에 출시할 계획을 가지고있다"

LG Electronics spokeswoman Na Joo-young said her company will flexibly respond to the market move as it is still unsure which format will prevail. "It will take at least two or three years to see which will be the major format," Na said.

To support both formats, LG Electronics introduced its hybrid Blu-ray/HD DVD player Super Multi Blue BH 100 in the global market in February with a price tag of $1,199.

두가지 형식을 모두 지원하기 위해 LG전자는 그들의 하이브리드 블루레이/HD DVD플레이어인 멀티 블루 BH 100모델을 내년 2월에 국제시장에 미화 1199달러에 판매할 예정이다.

Blu-ray creator Sony and HD DVD maker Toshiba have been warring over the standard for the next generation of DVD players, which were introduced last year but failed to become popular because consumers had to choose which one to buy. The content producers involved in the film industry have to choose a format, too.

블루레이형식을 창시한 소니사와 HD-DVD형식을 쓰는 도시바사는 차세대 DVD플레이어의 일반적인 모델로의 장악을 노리고있다; 두가지 모두 작년에 소개 되었지만 소비자들이 어느 형식을 사야할지 골라야했기때문에 인기를 얻지 못했다. 이 두 형식을 만든 제작사들은 영화제작사들과도 연관을 짓기 시작했다.
